In reapproaching this tile design, I wanted to fix the faults of the original. Tile #473-2 is firstly of a much larger scale, and is designed to cover an entire wall from floor to ceiling. With this change in scale, comes a change in material from ceramic to a vacuum formed polystyrene. Each is very lightweight and requires little effort in installation. With using polystyrene, the manufacturing of the tiles has been improved in its consistency of duplication, making the final product more seamless. With this, a tweak in form has eliminated unwanted heavy shadows and uneven gaps. In all, this redesign maintains the engaging texture of the original, but offers a more flexible and affordable product for the user.
